Tips for Renting a Dumpster

Some people rarely need to rent a dumpster, while other rent one from us monthly.  We will provide you with 4 handy tips for renting a dumpster in case you are one of those rare renters. 

Tip #1: Whenever you are looking to dispose of a large amount of refuse or waste, you'll find estimating the yard size before calling for the dumpster will help. Whether you are unloading furniture, or cleaning out your garage and basement storage, you'll find if you can estimate the overall size of the dumpster needed could help you save. We offer 15-20 Yard dumpsters for less than the 30 - 40 Yard dumpster. But, be sure not to overfill the fill line because that can result in load leveling charges by the hour.  Legally, the DOT requires the loads not to be overfilled past the fill line to protect the lives of the other people on the road from flying debris.  So you can help do your part by estimating the load size and planning accordingly.

Tip #2: Most dumpsters are placed either in your yard or on the driveway to avoid the added cost of a street permit. The weight of the dumpster itself and the garbage you are throwing away can add up to quite a heavy load on your grass or cement. So the better estimation you have as to the size you really need in advance, the less weight you will be placing on your concrete, which will avoid cracking cement and damaged grass, etc.

Tip #3: If you can find anyway to keep the dumpster off the street, you will avoid the added cost of the street permit altogether.  Street permits for dumpsters are required to be renewed weekly with the city you live in.  Street permits typically cost anywhere from $35 - $45/week depending on the city. So, placing the dumpster on your grass in the yard or on your driveway can save you the extra cost of the city street permit.

Tip #4:  Lastly, the more organized you can be up front before the dumpster is delivered, the more you can save. Because dumpsters are in higher demand in the summer time during moving season, the typical rental is for 7 days with an additional cost charged for each day after during the busy season.  So, being organized or enlisting family or friends to help you in filling the dumpster within the 7 days can save you time and money!
